The web design business can get terribly technical. From XHTML to CSS to PHP to JS to MYSQL to Rails…. after enough acronyms and no soup, clients start feeling like they’re sinking. They start to feel like they’re losing control of the project because they can’t understand parts of what’s going on. Even worse, a client can feel like they’re being swindled because of a developer’s failure to comunicate with them clearly about what’s going on. At Hype IMD, we aim to prevent that.
That’s not to say that we “dumb down” anything for our clients — we don’t. We’re not up for insulting anyone’s intelligence, either. But it is about making sure that the client understand that a project requires that they understand what is happening, so that they can not only make sure that it meshes well with what they have in mind — but to make sure that they can keep tabs on the project as it progresses. For example - clients may understand the phrase “You should receive your design previews in about 10 days.” But how well would a client understand “I’ll be programming your CMS to make sure that your basic fields autopopulate the values from the MySQL and prevent improper injections?” It’s a Hype philosophy that they shouldn’t have to paste parts of an e-mail into Google to double check whether it’s on the up and up.
In short, we do our best to make sure that our clients understand everything that is going on, and we keep the process as transparent as possible.
